Expedia India has launched its new loyalty scheme, Expedia+.
Members of the programme, which is free to join, will be able to earn points on all hotel or holiday activity bookings made via Expedia. The scheme also offers additional benefits such as member-only deals and bonus offers. Expedia+ has three tiers: +blue, +silver and +gold.
“With the growing acceptance of e-commerce and evolution of the Indian travellers, the consumer has now started looking for value-based programmes that not only offer them great rewards but also exclusive benefits,” said Manmeet Ahluwalia, Expedia India’s marketing head. “The Expedia+ program will not only help us reach out to a larger number of customers but also expand our base of loyal customers in the country.”
Expedia+ was launched following a major survey conducted by the company in India. The results revealed that 44% of Indians would be open to enrolling in new travel loyalty programmes, and that the most desirable benefits for Indian consumers are complimentary hotel room upgrades (82%), free drinks and meals (77%) and hotel nights abroad (34%).
“Our survey… discovered that 47% Indians are a part of two-to-three travel loyalty programmes while 38% participate in at least one programme,” Ahluwalia noted. “This clearly reflects that there is an appetite for loyalty programmes as the Indian consumer is growing smarter and wants to accumulate and avail benefits on every purchase.”
Members of Expedia+ will be able to redeem their points at any time, with no blackout dates.
Free membership automatically gives the consumers +blue status, with +silver status being achieved after the member stays for seven qualifying hotel room nights. Fifteen room nights are required for +gold status. The +gold and +silver members enjoy additional benefits such as extra bonus points on every booking, plus free amenities or room upgrades, and travellers also get triple the amount of points for booking via Expedia’s mobile app.
