Sichuan Airlines is planning to launch its first flights to Los Angeles this summer.
The Chengdu-based carrier has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch three weekly flights to Los Angeles, via Jinan, the capital of eastern China’s Shandong province. If approved, the new route will commence in June 2016.
Sichuan Airlines plans to deploy its 298-seat two-class Airbus A330 aircraft on the route, configured with 36 seats in first class and 262 in economy.
Los Angeles will become the carrier’s first mainland US destination. It also flies to the Pacific island territory of Saipan and the Canadian city of Vancouver.
Last year, China Eastern Airlines launched three weekly flights between Chengdu and LA, via Nanjing, and United Airlines connects Chengdu with another Californian city, San Francisco.
