India’s hotel sector has started the year strongly, posting the highest occupancy level for any January in the country since 2008.
According to the latest data from STR Global, the average nationwide occupancy level climbed 4.7% year-on-year to 66.1% last month – the highest January level for eight years.
Coupled with a 0.3% increase in average daily rate (ADR), to INR6.173.58 (or approximately US$90), India’s revenue per available room (revPAR) rose +5.1% to INR4,081.56.
India’s average occupancy of 66.1% in January was exactly the same as that of the broader Asia Pacific region, although the country’s ADR lagged behind the regional average of US$104.60.
