Cebu Pacific has revealed plans to roll out a new type of economy class seat on its new fleet of Airbus aircraft.
The Philippine low-cost carrier has become the first airline in the Asia Pacific region to order Recaro Aircraft Seating’s new SL3510 model, and will now fit the seats on its 30 new Airbus A321neo aircraft.
The Recaro SL3510 weighs around 40% less than conventional economy class seats, allowing the airline to improve the fuel economy of its flights. The seats also feature a thinner backrest, increasing the space between rows.
“We have always been a firm advocate of innovative and economic solutions that ensure the best travel experience for our passengers,” said Cebu Pacific’s president & CEO, Lance Gokongwei. “It is with this mission in mind that we have decided to equip our upcoming brand new Airbus A321neos with Recaro SL3510 seats.
“The ergonomic seats will not only contribute to our valued guests’ comfort on-board, but also help us reduce fuel burn with their lightweight, cost-efficient design. We look forward to providing even more affordable and enjoyable flights to all our customers,” he added.
Cebu Pacific currently operates 56 aircraft, but is planning to expand to a fleet of 80 jets by 2021, including the addition of the new A321neos.
Last week, Cebu Pacific’s rival, AirAsia, also announced plans to refit its entire fleet with a new type of lightweight seat.
