Queenstown will welcome 10,000 Chinese delegates in 2018, when Amway China hosts its annual Leadership Seminar in the New Zealand city.
The event, which was announced by New Zealand’s Prime Minister and Tourism Minister, John Key, marks the biggest incentive trip Business New Zealand has won since it entered the MICE market three years ago.
The five-day business trip is expected to yield revenues of NZ$50 million (US$34m), plus an extra NZ$10m in delegate shopping and consumption.
“This is by far the biggest incentive business New Zealand has ever won, and it sends a strong message that New Zealand is a serious contender in the global incentive market,” said Key. “China is now our second-largest and fasting growing tourism market, contributing nearly NZ$1.7 billion to the economy in 2015. And Chinese tourists have the highest daily spend of any of our visitors.”
Amway China’s president, Audie Wong, said that he chose Queenstown for the Leadership Seminar “because we value its excellent hard and soft tourism conditions, and we appreciate the high flexibility and creativity it exhibits as a business events destination”.
The delegates are expected to participate in a series of activities in Queenstown, focusing on the region’s outdoor pursuits and food and wine.
“Queenstown in autumn is truly beautiful, offering readily available tourism options from food and wine to outdoor activities. I’m confident that Amway’s elite distributor team will gain joy and inspiration from this trip, and will not regret their choice,” stated Vanessa van Uden, Mayor of Queenstown.
