Andhra Pradesh has launched a series of new water sports and adventure tourism facilities across its tourist destinations.
The Indian state has inaugurated new water sport activities in the Bhavani Islands, including parasailing, jeep parasailing, para-motoring, water skiing and speed boat rides. Such activities will also soon be introduced in other beach destinations such as Rishikonda, Bheemili, Thotlakonda and Mangamaripeta.
In the adventure tourism sector, activities including waterfall rappelling, rock climbing, high rope courses and zorbing were recently launched in the hill stations of Horsley Hills, Puligundu and Talakona.
Neerabh Kumar Prasad, the state’s Principal Secretary for Tourism, said; “We are extremely proud to announce the launch of a host of water sport and adventure tourism facilities in Andhra Pradesh. This launch will herald a new dimension in tourism in the state.”
And the state’s tourism portfolio will expand even further in future, with plans for the launch of helicopter tours and amphibious vehicles.
RP Khajuria, Commissioner at state Department of Tourism, commented; “Amphibious vehicles and heli tourism are two most contemporary forms of tourism attractions. We plan to launch them soon and are really upbeat about it. Overall with the launch of these hosts of water sport and adventure tourism activities, we feel tourism in the state will get a major boost.”
And the state is planning to launch 33 hotels with an investment of INR24 billion (US$361 million) in the coming years. Hotel groups including Taj, ITC, AccorHotels, IHG and Marriott International are all looking at new properties in Andhra Pradesh.
