Starwood has unveiled plans to introduce a new in-room streaming service at its Aloft hotels.
The high-tech hotel brand will roll out the new ‘RoomCast Powered by Chromecast’ solution, which has been designed by TeleAdapt specifically for the hotel industry.
Starting this week, Aloft New Orleans Downtown will pilot the streaming service, which allows guests to stream TV shows, apps and other content directly to their in-room TVs. Guests will not need to set up an account.
“Innovation is at the heart of the Aloft brand, and we are always striving to bring new technologies to our early adopter guests first,” said Sarah Downing, Aloft’s vice president of global guest initiatives.
“In partnership with the cutting-edge thinkers of TeleAdapt, we are thrilled to be first to bring RoomCast powered by Chromecast to market at Aloft New Orleans Downtown. It’s a simple, safe and secure way for guests to stream their favourite content right to their televisions. It’s the future of in-room entertainment, now.”
All rooms will be equipped with a wireless personal area network and a Chromecast media streaming device. Upon entering their room, guests can join their own personal network, at which point they will discover a ‘Cast’ button on their iOS or Android devices. They can then join the in-room network, open a cast-enabled app and tap the Cast button to watch content on their TV.
Everything is controlled from the guests’ phone or tablet using mobile apps they already use, and there is no need to download software or enter personal information. The network password is then reset for the next hotel guest.
All 188 rooms at the Aloft New Orleans Downtown will be fitted with RoomCast by late summer. If the trial is successful, the streaming system could be rolled out to the other 100+ Aloft hotels worldwide.
