Adventurous travellers can now register for 2017 tours to Son Doong, the world’s largest cave, located in Vietnam.
The five-day trips, which are being organised and sold by a single operator, Oxalis Adventure Tours, will each be open to a maximum of 10 people at the cost of US$3,000 per person.
Each tour requires a team of 25 porters, a guide, two cave experts and two park rangers. No more than 500 people will be able to book the tours in 2017.
Located in Quang Binh province, not far from the border with Laos, Son Doong was only fully explored and surveyed by British cavers in 2009. It is approximately 9km long, 150 metres high and 200 metres wide and features a fast-flowing subterranean river.
