Hotels in India experienced rising rates, occupancy and revPAR (revenue per available room) in July 2016.
According to the latest data from STR, the country’s occupancy climbed 6.4% to 61.9% last month, while average daily rate (ADR) increased 3.0% to INR5,068.31 (approx. US$75). This allowed nationwide revPAR to jump to INR3,139.32 in July, 9.6% higher than the same month last year.
This uplift is in line with a sharp rise in the number of international travellers visiting India in July. The country welcomed 736,000 arrivals last month, up 17.1% compared to July 2015.
India’s monthly international tourism receipts surged 19.5% year-on-year to INR143.19 billion, with Bangladesh, the US and UK identified as India’s top three feeder markets during the month.
The 9.6% monthly growth of revPAR in India far exceeded that average 2.4% growth experienced across the Asia Pacific region. India’s absolute revPAR of around US$47 however, is significantly lower than the Asia Pacific average of US$69.68.
