Air China has confirmed plans to launch a new direct service between Chengdu and Sydney.
At a press conference in Chengdu on Thursday, the airline revealed that the new route would commence on 11 November 2016, operating three times a week.
Flights will depart Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 2255 and arrive in Sydney at 1235 the next day. The return services then take off at 1435 every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and arrive back in Chengdu at 2235.
The airline will deploy its Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route.
This route becomes Air China’s third intercontinental flight from Chengdu, following its existing services to Paris and Frankfurt. It will also complement Air China’s existing flights to Sydney from Beijing and Shanghai.
Sichuan Airlines currently flies direct from Chengdu to Melbourne and operates to Sydney from Chongqing.
