India’s Ministry of Tourism, Dr Mahesh Sharma, recently met with Shri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, to discuss tourism opportunities in the remote northeastern state.
Issues covered during the Delhi meeting included the promotion of tourism and development of infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, which borders Bhutan, Tibet and northern Myanmar.
Shri Pema Khandu reportedly highlighted the tourism destinations that could be promoted in Arunachal Pradesh, including many religious pilgrimage sites.
The Ministry of Tourism states that Dr Sharma “assured the visiting chief minister” of his support. The ministry is especially keen to develop high-end ecotourism in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh will also be promoted as part of the new ‘Northeast Circuit’ which aims to connect key tourism sites across the remote region’s seven states.
