London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) handled a record 7.34 million passengers in August with Middle East passengers helping to drive this increase.
Europe’s busiest airport said numbers grew by 0.1 percent on the previous year, proving Britain’s June vote to leave the European Union had not impacted passenger demand.
Traffic to the Middle East increased 9.1 percent in August 2015 compared to August 2014 – the highest growth region for the airport.
Latin America took second slot with 5.8 percent growth followed by Asia in third place with 5.1 percent growth.
Capacity increases were due to the deployment of larger aircraft on Middle East routes, said LHR.
Passenger growth to these regions outweighed the dip in domestic traffic and on flights serving North America and Africa.
Heathrow’s figures come after Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international passenger traffic, revealed throughput jumped 14 percent from a year earlier to a monthly record of 7.62 million passengers in July.
