Thomas Cook India has started to roll out a series of “small, tech-assisted” travel shops in smaller cities across the country.
The first ‘Thomas Cook Mini’ store has opened in Rudrapur, in the northern state of Uttarakhand. The new outlet was inaugurated by Tilak Raj Behad, Uttarakhand’s former health minister, in the presence of Ambreesh Rastogi and Ankul Kumar, Thomas Cook India’s associate vice presidents of foreign exchange.
Focused on India’s emerging third tier cities, Thomas Cook Mini outlets will be staffed by two-person teams and will be equipped with technology via mobile devices and tablets, enabling “quick customer transactions”. The stores will also offer foreign exchange services.
“A low-cost, rapid penetration model was a clear need, and hence the launch of our Thomas Cook Mini,” said Mahesh Iyer, Thomas Cook India’s chief operating officer. “Such small, efficient, technology-assisted outlets will provide our customers with ease in access and convenience of swift foreign exchange transactions.
“We are very excited with the initial response from our new Uttarakhand Thomas Cook Mini at Rudrapur,” he added.
