Air Pegasus, the regional Indian carrier that has been grounded since July 2016, has suffered a further setback after aviation authorities deregistered its entire fleet.
The Economic Times cited a “top official” with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirming the move, which applies to all three of Air Pegasus’ ATR 72-500 aircraft.
“We have deregistered their aircraft,” said the official, who wished to remain anonymous.
This means that even if Air Pegasus was able to resume operations, it would not have any aircraft to do so. But Shyson Thomas, the Bengaluru-based airline’s managing director, told the Economic Times that he is planning to lease two aircraft in order to relaunch flights.
Air Pegasus started flying in April 2015 and built a network of eight destinations across southern India. It was grounded in July for financial issues relating to lease payments for its aircraft.
