Korean Air is adding two destinations and cutting two in a significant shake-up of its network.
The national carrier has revealed plans to launch non-stop flights between Seoul and Barcelona from April 2017. Flights will run three times a week and will mark the first direct connection between Catalonia and South Korea.
In addition, Korean Air has confirmed its previously-announced plan to start flying to Iran’s capital Tehran, although the launch date and frequency of the route have not been confirmed.
The airline will also suspend two of its routes early next year, due to low demand. In February 2017, the direct service to Siem Reap and the Seoul-Jeddah via Riyadh route will cease operating. In relation to the Saudi route however, Korean Air said it plans to mitigate the impact of the suspension with “increased connections with Middle Eastern airlines that operate from Dubai International Airport”.
The airline will also increase the frequency of flights to several destinations in the US. The Seoul-San Francisco route will gradually increase from seven to 14 flights per week over the course of 2017, reaching its maximum level by September, and the Seoul-Seattle service will rise from five to seven weekly flights from May 2017.
In addition, the current twice daily flights between Seoul and Los Angeles will be increased to three daily flights during the summer high season from June to August 2017.
