Lhasa’s Konggar Airport, the main gateway to Tibet, has exceeded three million annual passengers for the first time.
China’s Xinhua news agency reports that the airport broke the one million barrier in 2006 and passed two million passengers in 2013. It has now handled more than three million passengers this year.
Eight airlines currently fly to Lhasa, all of which are registered in China. These carriers operate dozens of different routes from the hub, but the airport’s only international connections are with Air China and Tibet Airlines to Kathmandu, the capital of neighbouring Nepal.
