The Solomon Islands tourism industry recorded positive figures in the first three quarters of 2016, with a solid increase in terms of international visitor arrivals.
According to the latest data from the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office, a total of 16,381 international visitors entered the South Pacific island nation in the January-September 2016 period, up 4.5% year-on-year.
Australian arrivals continued to dominate, with the total of 6,868 visitors representing 41% of total international visitation. Arrivals from the US jumped 10.8% to 1,152 in 2016, while those from New Zealand increased 3.7% to 1,136. Fiji was the Solomon Islands’ fourth largest source market, with an 8.8% increase to 1,122 visitors.
Sharp growth was seen from Asian markets however; collective Asian visitor arrivals surged 22.4% to 2,232. The Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau’s CEO, Jo Tuamoto, attributed this growth to his country’s attendance at travel expos in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
