Qatar Airways has started allowing Chinese passengers to pay for their flights using UnionPay credit and debit cards.
With more than 5.8 billion cards issued globally, UnionPay is an international bankcard network and one of the main methods of payment for Chinese travellers. It is accepted in 160 countries and regions.
Under the new arrangement, Qatar Airways passengers can book via the airline’s website and pay using their UnionPay cards in multiple currencies, including Chinese yuan.
A UnionPay logo has been added to Qatar Airways’ payment page, and guests selecting this option will be re-directed to UPI’s website to fill out their payment details.
“Our partnership with UnionPay International… provides our global customers with more flexible payment options when they choose to book with Qatar Airways,” said Qatar Airways’ group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker. “We are committed to finding ways to better serve our customers, from our recently launched Apple Pay feature to our new digital membership card for our valued Privilege Club members.”
Qatar Airways now flies to six cities in mainland China: Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
