Chan Brothers Travel will be sending a staff mission to Japan on Monday 16 May – the first since the 11 March earthquake and tsunami. Having cancelled almost all tour groups to Japan until the end of June, the Singapore-based travel group has sent the team of 10 staff, along with friends and family members, to assess the situation in the country. The group will be conducting the six-day ‘Japan Scenic Alpine Route’, covering Kyoto, Osaka, Fukui, Kanazawa, Tateyama Alpine Route, Nagona, Mount Fuji and Tokyo.
The group has been tasked with bringing back photographs and stories to share with their customers, with the aim of reassuring them that post-disaster Japan is safe to travel to. They will also feed information back from Japan via Facebook and Twitter.
Reshel Chan, Chan Brothers’ Retail Sales Manager – Asia, said; “There are no better ambassadors than our staff who have been there, done that, serving as real-life testament to the unshakable allure of Japan. We are putting money where our mouth is. The initiative was mooted when we realised that some customers were still hesitant to reinstate their travel plans to Japan this June as they had no clear idea of the situation there.”
Chan Brothers revealed that bookings to Japan have been slowly gaining momentum in the past three weeks, with 30 sign-ups for trips departing from June onwards, mainly for trips to Hokkaido.
