Singapore’s Education Ministry is shortlisting a number of travel agents – based on prescribed criteria – that schools can select from when planning overseas educational trips.
This is a departure from the current tender-based system which schools have described as time-consuming, a ChannelNews Asia report said.
“It’s a long process, and sometimes, the proposals are not up to expectation,” Vice-Principal Au Yong Po Lung was quoted saying about the present system.
“It will save schools some time, and since these agencies have been screened by MOE (Ministry of Education), we are also better able to assure parents of their child’s safety when we plan trips for them.”
The report said overseas school trips have increased by about 38% over the past two years.
Some 40 travel agents are expected to be appointed in the first phase starting next month.
