Apart from the newly opened Singapore Flyer, many tourist attractions around Singapore are not putting up any special gimmicks to lure visitors during the inaugural Formula 1 race later this month.
The TODAY newspaper reported that the Flyer would have television sets in each of its 28 capsules and have fringe activities to tie in with the first night Grand Prix race over the weekend of 26-28 September.
“Next to getting an F1 Paddock Pass, you can’t get any closer to the pit building than at the Singapore Flyer,” its General Manager Steven
Yeo was quoted saying.
The paper said its random check had revealed “little has been planned to tap the influx of at least 50,000 visitors for the race” at attractions like the Zoo and Night Safari.
According to the Dean of the Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management, this could be because they did not think these would increase visitor levels significantly.
“The other tourist attractions might not think it is necessary to have special promotions or programmes. We have the Singapore Biennale and the
Singapore River Festival going on at the same time, for example, and these visitors will have enough on their hands to keep them entertained,” Judy Siguaw was quoted saying.
