Villagers in the Thai provinces of Chachoengsao, Saraburi, Ayutthaya and Rayong have protested outside the US and German embassies, and outside a Japanese energy firm in Bangkok. The Bangkok Post has reported that the villagers are fighting the multi-billion-baht developments of four power stations - two of which will be coal-fired. The protesters said they feared environmental impacts of the projects, particularly air and water pollution.
The newspaper reports that of the four projects, only one has had its environmental impact assessment (EIA) report approved, while the other three projects are awaiting approval.
