Etihad eyes 25 million passengers

Etihad Airways aims to fly 25million passengers a year by 2020 and expand its network to up to 100destinations worldwide, Gulf News reported a company executive as saying.
The airline’s Executive VicePresident for Sales & Services, Geert W. Boven, made the announcement at afunction hosted by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
“We are looking at 7.5 million annual visitorsin Abu Dhabi and the availability of 80,000 hotel rooms in the emirate by2030,” Boven was reported saying. “By the end of 2009, Etihad will have a fleetof 52 aircraft, up from the 45 we have in our fleet now. This year we will addsix new routes – Melbourne by March, Athens and Istanbul by June, Chicago bySeptember, Cyprus and one more destination in India, yet to be decided,” headded.
