A chimpanzee which calmly collected a stash of rocks and then hurled them at zoo visitors has confirmed that apes can plan ahead just like humans, a Swedish study has concluded.
The chimp, named Santino, has fascination researchers at Furuvik Zoo with his carefully planned behaviour. According to an Associated Press report Santino started building his weapons cache in the morning before the zoo opened. He waited until about midday before he unleashed a “hailstorm” of rocks against visitors, a study in the Current Biology journal said.
