Hong Kong Tourism board joins forces with furry friends to promote new tourism district

Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is stepping into the second phase of promotion of its new tourism district, Old Town Central, with the help of a family of Shiba Inus. Residents of the Central-Sheung Wan district for over seven years and with a social following of over 10,000, the friendly dogs have become the most lovable mascots of the area.

Mini, Mochi, Yakult, Toro and Yobi will be starring in the promotional video for HKTB as well as taking the role of photographers, to showcase another perspective of Old Town Central.  Using cameras with sensors attached to their tails, automatically taking pictures at anything they wagged their tails at, 400 photographs were taken, featuring the themes of history, art, culture, food and more in the area.

Dawn Page, Director, UK & Northern Europe of the Hong Kong Tourism Board said, “We’re always looking for creative and fun ways to promote Hong Kong’s lifestyle and culture, and what better way than to enlist the help of the Old Town Central’s favourite family! We feel this is a unique way to showcase this vibrant and diverse district.”

The photos and videos taken by the canine stars can be seen across digital channels including the HKTB websiteYouTubeFacebook and Instagram. In addition, there will also be canine-themed QR codes at various OTC hotspots, including PMQ, Man Mo Temple, YMCA Bridges Street Centre and Lan Kwai Fong, to make it easier for visitors to see the video and learn more about Old Town Central.
