HOBART, 7 DECEMBER 2009: QantasLink announced today that it was increasing capacity in both Devonport and Launceston markets, from 1 February 2010.
QantasLink Executive Manager, Mr Narendra Kumar said the increase in capacity was possible due to the airline receiving a new Q400 aircraft, its 17th, which will begin operating on the Tasmanian routes.
“This new aircraft will be the second Q400 aircraft based in Melbourne, which will service both Devonport and Launceston and enable us to offer our Tasmanian customers our premium product,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the arrival of the new 74-seat jet-like Q400 aircraft would result in a range of upgrades and additional services to both of QantasLink’s Tasmanian destinations including:
?? one additional Melbourne-Devonport return service each week operated by Q400 aircraft on Tuesdays; and
?? three additional Melbourne-Launceston return services each week operated by Q400 aircraft on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Mr Kumar added that 13 out of 26 return services between Melbourne and Devonport will now be operated by the Q400 aircraft adding 484 additional seats on the route each week. All 17 return services on the Melbourne-Launceston route will also be operated by the Q400 aircraft, resulting in an additional 540 seats on the route each week.
QantasLink has invested over $600 million in 21 new Q400 aircraft since 2006. These aircraft will operate alongside the airline’s fleet of five Q200, 16 Q300 and 11 B717 aircraft, currently providing around 1,800 flights each week to 53 metropolitan and regional destinations throughout Australia.
