Beijing is likely to report tourism revenues of CNY240 billion (US$35.1 billion) in 2009 – up 8% from its Olympic year in 2008, Xinhua reported the Municipal Tourism Bureau as saying. The growth was attributed partly to government measures to boost tourism, such as opening up more free tourism attractions. Foreign exchange earnings hit an estimated at US$4.5 billion, approximately the same as last year, the report added.
