Cathay Pacific today announced that it will strengthen connectivity between Penang and Hong Kong with the introduction of a direct daily service from 28 March 2011.
The new daily service between Penang and Hong Kong will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft in a two-class configuration – Business and Economy Class.
Mandy Wu, Cathay Pacific Country Manager for Malaysia & Brunei, said; “We are very pleased to be able turn the flights that currently operate from Penang via Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong into direct services, providing more convenience and greater connectivity for passengers.”
Cathay Pacific’s Malaysian operations started in 1957, with the first flights from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, with services to Penang aadded in 1977.
“We applaud the Penang State Government’s tremendous efforts in promoting Penang’s rich cultural heritage and tourism, including the Visit Penang 2010 - 2012 campaign. With the introduction of our daily non-stop flights to and from Hong Kong we are confident we can fly more visitors into Penang from the various destinations in our network,” Ms Wu added.
In addition to the Penang flight enhancements, Cathay Pacific is also retiming the last flight from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur to depart at 4:15pm, one hour later than at present, to allow more flexibility for its passengers. The Penang flights meanwhile, will depart Hong Kong at 07.45am each day, returning from Penang at 3pm.
