Sharjah witnesses increased tourist activity Special events and festivities rolled out for the Holy month of Ramadan is attracting international visitors to Sharjah in large numbers, stimulating the tourism sector in the emirate. More than 90,000 tourists from diverse nationalities visited Sharjah last year during Ramadan and authorities are expecting the numbers to go up even higher this year.HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said: “The Sharjah Ramadan Festival, in its 23rd edition, has the emirate at its charming best with a host of special programmes and festivals like Ramadaniat Al Qasba, coupled with a range of exciting promotions and activities for tourists and Arab and GCC visitors.”He further emphasised that in addition to regular events and special promotions, this special season will also see the emirate host a number of religious, cultural and heritage activities, reviving memories and traditions of Ramadan in the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular.Al Noman said that various special events and activities during the holy month have been playing a positive role in stimulating the tourism sector and increasing demand on hotels, shopping centres, restaurants and in other areas of the hospitality sector in the emirate. “This is important to boost the economic sector in the emirate,” he pointed out.
