Subodh Kant Sahai, Tourism Minister for India has resigned over the weekend.
Sahai will be replaced by veteran movie star, Chiranjeevi as the new Tourism Minister.
Travel Daily learnt that the tourism industry is disappointed with the cabinet reshuffle. Subhash Goyal, President of Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) said, “It seems that the government still does not realize the full potential of tourism to give jobs and reduce poverty. Continuity is very important, he pointed out, adding that frequent changes at the political and bureaucratic front did no good for tourism promotion.”
Rajendra Kumar, Director of The Ambassador Hotel New Delhi and former President of Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) hoped that clearly the change today did not signify right man for the purpose. Kumar hoped that a suitable senior person will be appointed as a full Cabinet Minister for Tourism soon.
