The newly appointed CEO of Cardiff Airport made two important announcements last night, at an event hosted by Travel Daily UK.
Jon Horne, the company’s new chief, revealed four new non-executive directors who will work alongside himself and current chairman Lord Rowe-Beddoe in a move that is “hugely beneficial” to the airport.
The non-executive members include Philip Ashman, Geraint Davies CBE, Margaret Llewellyn OBE and Andrew Sargent.
He also revealed an airport revamp which will take place within the arrivals hall in collaboration with the Welsh Government. The scheme will include the implementation of multimedia displays, showing Wales’ “heritage, landscape and culture”.
Minister for Economy, Edwina Hart said: “First impressions are important. Cardiff Airport is a major gateway into Wales for air passengers and this new project will showcase a uniquely Welsh approach to business, culture, the arts, tourism and events.”
Horn, who was CEO of Cardiff Airport between 2001-2007 told Travel Daily UK: “I’ve come back because I believe the market isn’t broken. It has lost a lot of traffic but the bulk of that traffic is still flying. It’s just using other airports outside Wales. We are now focused on bringing a business model that brings the capacity and services back to Cardiff. That will allow those people to choose their local airport again.”
