With the Parliamentary summer recess (21 July to 5 September 2016) well underway, around three quarters of MPs (74%) say they are likely to have a holiday abroad this summer, according to research for ABTA carried out by ComRes.
This is steady with last summer when 77% were planning to take a break.
MPs are more likely to take a holiday abroad than the general public, 54% of whom took a foreign holiday last year.
Despite the impending Labour leadership election, the Labour MPs surveyed were more likely than their Conservative counterparts to say they will have a holiday abroad this summer; 78% of Labour MPs state this, compared to 69% of Conservatives. Of the MPs surveyed so far in 2016, compared with last year, Conservative MPs are less likely to be planning a holiday abroad; 82% of Conservatives and 73% of Labour MPs stated they were planning a summer holiday in 2015.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA CEO, said: “Peak holiday season is well and truly upon us and after an incredibly eventful few months on the domestic political stage our survey shows that a majority of MPs are clearly looking forward to a holiday abroad this Summer.
“As they enjoy their break in the sun, we’d ask them to think about the high level of air passenger duty they and their constituents will have paid on flights, and to support ABTA’s push for the Government to scrap or reduce the tax for the benefit of the economy as well as local families.”
