Indonesia certifies Sukhoi Superjet
Indonesia has given the green light for airlines to operate the Sukhoi Superjet 100, less than eight months after the aircraft crashed on a demonstration flight near Jakarta.
The Indonesian General Directorate of Civil Aviation validated the Russian aircraft’s certificate, allowing it to be exported to Indonesia and operation by Indonesian carriers.
“The validation process has been completed through a long and careful work,” said Igor Vinogradov, Sukhoi’s First Vice-President for Development & Certification. “This will allow [us] to deliver the aircraft to the first customer in the Southeast Asian market, the Indonesian airline Sky Aviation.”
The aircraft, which can carry up to 100 passengers, crashed into the slopes of Mount Salak in West Java during a demonstration flight, killing 45 people. Two Indonesian carriers – Kartika Airlines and Sky Aviation – have ordered a total of 42 Sukhoi Superjets.
