Japan Airlines and China Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will significantly expand their codeshare agreement.
From mid-February 2017, the two carriers’ cooperation will be expanded to cover all routes operated by both airlines between Japan and Taiwan. In real terms, this means that 240 flights will carry the codes of both carriers, up from just 28 at present.
“The new memorandum with China Airlines is an important milestone in further enhancing partnership between the two airlines to provide customers better access to the destinations between Japan and Taiwan,” said Hideki Oshima, JAL’s executive officer of international relations & alliances.
An open skies agreement has led to sharp increase in the number of direct flights between Japan and Taiwan.
