A former chateau belonging to Laura Ashley and Jeanne Moreau has been refurbished under its owners Karma Royal Group.
British interior designer Nicky Haslam oversaw the redevelopment of Le Preverger, which is close to St Tropez in the medieval village of La Garde-Frenet. The estate’s four bedrooms were initially updated with a new library. Renovations will now start on its gardens, guest villa, coach house and pool house.
“We were extremely keen to maintain the provenance and history of the house and its previous occupants, notably Laura Ashley and Jeanne Moreau, and [Nicky’s] brief was to do this whilst modernising it and making it an outstanding example of interior design,” said John Spence, CEO of Karma Royal, which bought the property less than a year ago. “Equally, Philip Blackwell has created and curated an amazing library which complements the house and interior design and which will be a joy for people for years to come.”
Before Royal Karma’s ownership the summer estate was owned by the Ashleys who listed Diana, Princess of Wales and Margaret Thatcher amongst their visitors from 1983.
Before the Ashleys the chateau was owned by the actress Jeanne Moreau whose guests included Orson Welles, Brigitte Bardot and Pablo Picasso. It can now be rented with a private helicopter and pilot.
