A full-size replica of Titanic will take centre stage at a new theme park in China.
Located in the landlocked province of Sichuan, the new theme park will be dedicated to the ill-fated ship, including a museum of Titanic memorabilia and even a 6-D cinema experience to allow guests to experience the harrowing moments onboard the ship as it sank in 1912.
Other attractions at the Romandisea Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort will include a man-made beach and replicas of European castles and churches.
The CNY1 billion (US$164 million) theme park is being developed by the Seven Star Energy Investment Group, and will be located in Sichuan’s Daying county. And while it may be more than 1,500km from the ocean, Daying is already famed for one major water-based attraction: the ‘Chinese Dead Sea’ – a huge saltwater pool.
Construction on the Titanic theme park is expected to commence this year.
The new Titanic will be the second replica of the ship to be built in China. The ocean-going Titanic II was commissioned by Australian businessman Clive Palmer in 2012, and is currently under construction at a shipyard in Jiangsu province. Only complete, it will recreate the original Titanic’s maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.
