LOT launches Dreamliner flights
Amid the problems with the Dreamliner in Japan, Europe’s only Boeing 787 operator put the aircraft into commercial service for the first time yesterday (16 January 2013).
LOT Polish Airlines launched its first Dreamliner on a direct flight from Warsaw to Chicago yesterday. The airline will now operate the route five times a week, rising to 10 in the peak summer months.
LOT is the first European carrier to operate the Dreamliner, with a total of eight aircraft on order. Two have already been delivered with a third due to arrive next week. The Chicago service will be followed by the launch of the Dreamliner on LOT’s Warsaw-Toronto and Warsaw-New York (JFK) routes early next month.
“We selected Chicago as our first US destination because it has historically been the number one US destination for us,” said Tomasz Dakowski, LOT’s global director of sales. “It has been the support of the largest Polish population outside of Poland in this region that has helped make our flights a success.”
The Polish national carrier has configured its Dreamliner with 252 seats – 18 in business class, 21 in premium economy and 213 in economy.
