Stena Line has seen a 5.9% increase in passenger traffic on its route from Harwich to the Hook of Holland.
The ferry operator carried 246,000 people on the route in the first six months of 2013, up 14,000 from the first six months in 2012.
In addition the company saw a 9.6% uplift in cars carried and 5.7% boost in coach traffic. During May particularly the operator saw a passenger increase of 21.3%.
“The Harwich–Hook of Holland service remains of huge strategic importance for Stena Line and we will continue to explore ways to enhance services on the route, ensuring the best possible pricing to sustain our strong growth,” said Lars Olsson, general manager for travel on the North Sea at Stena Line.
“Although we are mindful of the regulatory issues facing ferry travel on the North Sea and the on-going economic challenges affecting the UK and the Eurozone, we remain confident that the hotel-like facilities on board our Superferries, coupled with keen pricing and a convenient schedule, put us in an excellent position to achieve further growth,” he added.
The company is aiming to carry more than 550,000 passengers and 120,000 cars this year.
