Portuguese airline TAP has announced the completion of the company’s re-privatisation process.
61% of its share capital has been acquired by the Atlantic Gateway Group, which is jointly owned by both the HPGB, SGPS Society, led by the Portuguese Humberto Pedrosa, and by the DGN Corporation, led by the North-American David Neeleman.
In a statement, TAP said it would ensure it keeps its Portuguese traditions and characteristics, while embracing new skills and knowledge and combining these to reinforce its Lisbon Hub.
The changes will also allow TAP not only to maintain, but to strengthen its leading role in connecting Europe to Africa and to the Americas.
Immediately, the priorities will focus on the adjustment and improvement of processes, as well as to TAP’s consolidation, with next steps towards the reinforcement of the fleet and the expansion of the network — namely in Brazil and North America.
Fifty-three new Airbus aircraft remain under order.
