Tune Hotels has opened its first budget property in Bangkok, and is planning to add at least five more in the Thai capital.
Located on Sukhumvit Soi 14, in the centre of Bangkok, the Tune Hotel Asoke offers 130 rooms with optional extras such as Wi-Fi, cable TV, toiletries and air-conditioning available at a charge.
It becomes the third Tune Hotel in Thailand, following existing properties in Pattaya and Hat Yai, and will be followed in December this year by the first Tune in Phuket; a new 150-room hotel in Patong. But according to Tim Hansing, CEO of Red Planet Hotels – which recently acquired a 16.05% stake in Tune – the company is planning to expand further in Bangkok.
“We are on the verge of signing up to four or five more sites in Bangkok,” Hansing said.
This mirrors comments made by Tune’s CEO, Mark Lankester to Travel Daily earlier this year. In an interview, Lankester said he thought Tune could “do another six or seven hotels in Bangkok”.
“People say it’s over-roomed, but I think there is still space to fill in the city. The Bangkok market is coming back,” Lankester told Travel Daily.
