Nearly 2,000 staff and passengers were evacuated from Perth International Airport yesterday aftersmoke caused by a cigarette butt caused an emergency, the Sydney Morning Heraldreported.
Perth Airport spokesperson, Malcolm Bradshaw, said flights were delayed whilefire crews sought to find the source of a burning smell. The offending ciggiereportedly fell through a grate, on to a leaves and plastic pipe, causing theacrid smell.
