P&O Cruises has unveiled five celebrity chefs in its line-up of ‘Food Heroes’ for the new Britannia ship.
The vessel will have the first cookery school onboard a British ship when James Martin introduces The Cookery Club, while P&O favourites Marco Pierre White, Atul Kochhar and Olly Smith will lend a hand in devising the ship’s restaurants and wine bars.
‘Cake Boy’ Eric Lanlard also joins the line up with his first venture at sea with a patisseries range at the Market Café.
All five will offer tuition at the cookery school on select cruises for classes of up to 24 at a time
“We are incredibly honoured to have secured the services of the best chefs at sea. The addition of James Martin and Eric Lanlard on Britannia further enhances the already
incomparable level of culinary excellence we are proud to offer across our fleet,” said P&O Cruises marketing director Christopher Edgington.
Britannia will have 13 restaurants and 13 bars when it launches next year, with facilities also including supervised children’s club for 2-17 year-olds including a dedicated teen’s area and a three-tier atrium with the patisseries, charcuterie and gelataria.
The ship will also feature an Oasis Spa; sports arena; four swimming pools; an art collection worth more than GBP1 million; a library; a dedicated wedding venue; a 936-seated theatre; a multi-purpose ‘TV studio’ and two entertainment rooms.
The 1, 837-cabin ship will have a mixture of suites and single cabins and will first sail from Southampton from March 2015.
Edgington also said the company will not bump up prices during the peak holiday period, as the debate around pricing during the summer months continues. “Britannia will showcase an incredible array of facilities for children and teenagers including dedicated teens pool area and we have ensured that our prices remain constant throughout the year irrespective of the timing of the peak school holiday periods,” said Edgington. “We are conscious of the hardship families face when taking holidays at these time and are therefore committed to fair pricing throughout the year.”
