Consumer confidence drives growth in online bookings

Online travel agent, On the Beach, has recorded a significant rise in summer holiday bookings in 2014, up 40% year-on-year.
The agent has also observed that people are spending on average 7% more on their holidays this year, as tourists take longer trips and book hotels with higher star ratings.
The company also reports a significant rise in smartphone bookings, up 119%, while bookings via tablet devices also doubling.
Catering for more than one million holiday makers a year, On the Beach has reported that both short and long-haul destinations are outperforming the previous year.
Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach resort has emerged as the fastest growing European destination amongst sun-seeking Brits, with bookings up 140% year on year. Other European destinations showing year on year growth include Croatia (+122%), Cyprus (+63%), and Malta (+ 54%).
Meanwhile, bookings to North Africa have continued to recover, with Morocco and Tunisia selling well above last year, up 122% and 73% respectively.
Since expanding its long haul programme, On the Beach has also witnessed a significant increase in bookings to popular destinations such as the Dominican Republic, up 172% on the previous year, Goa up 86%, and Mexico up 84%.
