P&O Cruises has announced a GBP26 million refurbishment for its Aurora ship this winter.
The ship will be adorned with the cruise line’s new Union Flag livery when it comes out of the shipyard in December, with the Sindhu and Glass House restaurants to also be added during the drydock period.
Much of the upgrade is focused on food and beverage, with the buffet restaurant and Sidewalk Café to be refurbished while a Costa Coffee and new ‘Grab and Go’ counter will be introduced.
New The Beach House and Marco Pierre White dishes will be introduced, while Freedom Dining will be put in the Medina Restaurant.
Other updates will include a refurbishment of The Reef children’s clubs; a new open-plan casino; new touch screens in the photo gallery; a shop upgrade; refreshed Oasis Spa; upgraded equipment in its theatre and show lounge and new furnishings and televisions for all cabins.
Aurora will be in drydock in Hamburg from 29 November to 18 December ahead of its Christmas and New Year cruises, followed by the South America & Pacific Adventure world cruise in January.
“This is a massive investment. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to ensure continuous improvement of our ships and consistency across the fleet. Both Ventura and Arcadia underwent huge multi-million pound refits last year and Aurora is the next in line with Azura planned for 2015,” said P&O’s marketing director Christopher Edgington. “Not only will Aurora feature firm favourites from Azura and Ventura, such as Sindhu and The Glass House restaurant and wine bar, but we will also see brand new initiatives as well as the distinctive new livery. As the very first ship to display our new livery, we have big plans to welcome Aurora back in to Southampton. We can’t wait to see her.”
