Australians now have a greater choice of travel options across Canada, following the signing of a major new partnership between Qantas and WestJet.
From 15 October 2014, Qantas passengers will be able to connect to more than 20 of WestJet’s routes to and within Canada, via Qantas’ trans-Pacific flights to either Los Angeles or Honolulu.
Passengers on these flights will be able to connect in less than four hours to WestJet’s flights to Canada’s key domestic hubs of Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Edmonton, then onwards across the country.
“This is great news for our customers who will enjoy the benefits of travelling on a Qantas flight number right through to their final destination in Canada with baggage checked through and more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points,” said Qantas’ executive manager for international sales, Stephen Thompson.
“This new codeshare delivers on our gateway strategy of operating to key global hubs and providing customers with access to an expanded network with airline partners based in those ports.
“Combined with increased services and an enhanced schedule to the US, this new codeshare arrangement also reinforces our position as the carrier of choice for both business and leisure travellers to the Americas, offering seamless one-stop travel options from Australia to destinations across Canada,” he added.
The new partnership complements existing codeshare agreements between Qantas and both American Airlines and Alaskan Airlines to Canada from other US cities.
Also last month Qantas announced a new codeshare with China Airlines, opening up two new codeshare routes from Sydney and Brisbane to Taipei. These will also commence on 15 October.
Including all its codeshare partnerships, Qantas now offers a global network spanning more than 1000 destinations.
