India has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman, designed to strengthen the tourism industries of both countries.
Under the terms of the agreement, India and Oman will encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders, including hotels and tour operators, as well as exchanging tourism data, promoting HR exchange programmes, participating in each other’s travel trade shows, and sharing best practices in the areas of tourism promotion, marketing, development and destination management.
The MoU is also expected to lead to reciprocal media and agent fam trips between the two countries.
“India and Oman have enjoyed a strong historical and long economic and political relationship,” India’s tourism ministry said in a statement.
“The two countries are linked by geography, history and culture. Both countries also enjoy warm and cordial relations, which can be ascribed to historical maritime trade linkages, intimacy of the Royal family with India and the seminal role of the Indian expatriate community in the building of Oman.”
In recent years Oman has emerged as an important tourism source market for India. In 2013, India received 62,252 visitors from Oman.
