71% of Indonesian mangroves damaged

Environment Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta recently announced to members of the press recently that 71% of Indonesia’s mangrove forests are damaged. Government data shows that Indonesia had 9.36 millionHa of mangrove forests, 48% of which were moderately damaged and 23% badly damaged. He was speaking at a ceremony to designate Brebes’ northern beaches as a green belt by the symbolic planting of 80,000 mangrove saplings in Randusanga Kulon village in Central Java.
