It’s official; in the new age of 24-hour technology there is no rest for the wicked! Work-addicted professionals around the world are never disconnected to the office, according to a new work-life study from Starwood’s Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. Many cannot go one hour without checking e-mail, and over three quarters take their PDA to bed!
The global study was conducted in five countries – the US, UK, China, Germany and Australia. Globally, 70% of executives say that because of new technology they work more now than they did five years ago, and 75% feel compelled to be connected to work matters 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
PDAs appear to have made the biggest impact of our daily lives. 78% of working professionals check their PDAs just before going to bed and as soon as they wake up in the morning, while 75% admit to sneaking a peek at e-mail in the middle of the night. In China, a huge 95% take their PDAs to bed.
However there is hope for all of us. Only 16% of professionals surveyed say that their PDA is more important than their family pet! Meanwhile only 27% of those surveyed say they’d pick their PDA over the spouse. But hang on
