Accor’s yacht Orient Express outfitted with BIO-SEA water treatment system
Water treatment specialist BIO-UV Group has supplied its BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system to French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique for operation aboard the Orient Express, the first in a series of Accor-operated luxury sailing yachts. Factory acceptance trials for the chemical-free BIO-SEA B01-0135 unit was successfully completed, with installation aboard the first Orient Express Sailing Yachts vessel taking place at the St. Nazaire shipyard. The vessel was floated out on Monday, 16th June. When the yacht becomes operational next year, the UV-based BIO-SEA system will be treating water flow rates up to 135 m3/h. A sister vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2027 will also be fitted with a similar B-type BIO-SEA unit. The world’s biggest sailing yacht At 220m (722ft) long and with gross tonnage of 26,200gt, Orient Express will be the world’s largest contemporary sailing yacht and the first to deploy the shipbuilder’s in-house designed SolidSail wind sail system. This features three 100m tall lightweight masts each of which will be rigged with 1500m2 Solid Sail/AeolDrive rigid but foldable sails. Commenting on the significance of the order, BIO-UV Group sales director for solutions Maxime Dedeurwaerder explained that it underscores not only the shipowner’s commitment to decarbonisation, but also BIO-UV Group’s focus on sustainability. According to Dedeurwaerder: “Our ballast water treatment systems resonate with environmentally conscientious ship owners and builders because of the compact, low energy consuming reactor technology we have developed. The BIO-SEA ‘B’ unit for the Accor ships, for instance, needs only one UV reactor, optimising space and energy saving efficiency without any impact on ballast water treatment performance to limit invasive species proliferation.” For his part, Chantiers de l’Atlantique senior vice-president for sales and marketing Arnaud Le Joncour pointed out that his company has already had good experience with BIO-UV Group’s BIO-SEA ballast water treatment systems, with more than twenty installations over the past decade. Le Joncour said: “The BIO-SEA technology combines mechanical filtration and UV disinfection providing chemical-free treatment compliant with both IMO and USCG regulations, which was an important consideration for the operational scope of the Accor sailing yachts.” A most effective solution With treatment capacities ranging from 100 to 500m3/h, the BIO-SEA B Series automatically regulates the UV dose according to the water quality. Treatment performance is not affected by water temperature or salinity and since no chemicals or active substances are used in the treatment process, deballasting can be carried out without detriment to the marine environment. A BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system can also benefit from the French water treatment specialist “warranty for life” policy, which assures ship operators of the through-life robustness, reliability, and performance of their installations. Valid with a three or five-year aftermarket service agreement, the warranty is contingent on a BIO-SEA system being installed and operated in full compliance with the operation and maintenance manual; that servicing is undertaken by a certified BIO-UV technician; and that any replacement parts or consumables are supplied directly from BIO-UV Group or its official network.
Accor and Community Corporate Expand Refugee Hiring Pathways
Above: Attendees at Accor’s Sydney Community Corporate day. As the world marks World Refugee Day on 20 June, Accor and Community Corporate are proud to announce a growing partnership dedicated to building more inclusive and human-centred workplaces across Australia. Together, the organisations are transforming lives through employer-led pathways that welcome, support and elevate refugee and migrant talent. In a country where only 6% of refugees find employment in their first six months and just 23% within two years, the need for employer leadership is urgent. Accor, the largest hotel operator in Australia, is actively responding. Nearly 100 refugees and migrants from 18 different cultural backgrounds have been hired across 17 Accor-operated hotels and Qantas lounges, bringing with them a rich mix of 22 spoken languages. Notably, 68% of those recruited are women - a powerful reflection of the partnership’s role in addressing employment disparities faced by refugee women. Team members have been welcomed to hotels across all segments, from luxury to economy, including Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour; Mantra Hindmarsh Square Adelaide; Pullman on the Park Melbourne; Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour, Mercure Perth on Hay; ibis Styles Brisbane; and Qantas lounges in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer, Adrian Williams, said: “Hospitality is, at its core, about people – and the richness of our industry comes from the diversity of those who power it. Inclusive hiring is not just a value we talk about – it is something we actively put into practice, because we see the extraordinary impact it has. This partnership is changing lives, strengthening our teams, and reminding us of what is possible when businesses lead with purpose. I encourage our peers across the hospitality industry to join us, because it makes our industry and society stronger.” Bibi Zahra The national partnership with Community Corporate extends beyond recruitment. In 2024, roadshows were held across five major cities, with over 500 job seekers engaged and more than 40 Accor leaders participating in cultural confidence training. In 2025, the roadshow expands to new regions including Tasmania and the Gold Coast, with the goal of placing another 100 refugees and migrants into employment by the end of 2025. As part of this journey, Accor has joined the Multicultural South Australia Ambassador Program - a hands-on initiative that helps organisations take real, practical steps toward becoming more culturally inclusive. Later this year, Accor will also trial new digital training modules in diversity, safety and inclusion, helping to further build cultural confidence across its hotels. Community Corporate CEO and Founder, Carmen Garcia, believes scalable change begins with bold leadership. “We need more corporate partners like Accor. They walk the talk - investing in the human outcomes and helping to change the narrative of what is possible when refugees are given a fair go,” said Carmen. One of the most powerful outcomes of the Accor and Community Corporate partnership is seen in the story of Bibi Zahra, a young woman from Afghanistan. After fleeing instability under the Taliban and spending time in Iran where education and opportunity were out of reach, Bibi arrived in Australia in 2023 under an orphan relative visa and was reunited with her sisters. Like many refugees, she faced the challenge of trying to find work without local experience. Determined to support her family, she took ad hoc jobs in farming and construction, working long hours for over eight months. Her breakthrough came through Community Corporate’s SETS program. After completing a Job Bootcamp in early 2025, Bibi gained the skills and confidence to secure a role with Accor at the Qantas Lounge in Adelaide - her first permanent job in Australia. Shuhad Al-Kaabi (2nd from left), First Day at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour “More than just learning, I felt seen and empowered, realising that I had the skills and resilience to find out a successful career,” said Bibi. “Community Corporate didn’t just give me job skills – they shaped my future.” Today, Bibi is also studying a Diploma of Nursing at the University of South Australia, a dream now within reach thanks to stable employment. With refugees and migrants continuing to face complex barriers to employment, Accor is determined to lead with purpose, building a workforce that truly reflects the diversity of Australia.

Unleashing india’s hospitality potential With an economy growing at an estimated ~7 % GDP rate and a population of 1.4 billion, India is on track to become the world's fifth-largest outbound travel market and third-largest domestic travel market by 2027. A rapidly emerging middle class, improved infrastructure, and increased air connectivity have fueled an unprecedented boom in domestic tourism and international travel, notably into the Middle East and Asia Pacific, where Accor is the leading hotel operator. India’s hotel industry remains highly fragmented, presenting a major opportunity for organized, branded players. By strengthening its long-lasting strategic partnership with InterGlobe, Accor aims to unlock India’s full hospitality potential, leading the transformation of the sector while catering to Indian travelers both domestically and globally. A bold expansion strategy This strategic collaboration between Accor and InterGlobe is structured around the following key initiatives: Creating a hospitality powerhouse covering all segments Accor and InterGlobe will bring together their currently owned assets, development and management businesses in the country to form one autonomous, integrated platform. Under this partnership, Treebo reached an agreement with various property owners to sign ten new Mercure’s, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s expansion in India. Accor’s brands will leverage Treebo’s state of the art technology to tap into India’s vast unbranded hotel market and accelerate growth. The combined Accor and Treebo portfolio will create India’s third-largest hospitality player, with over 30,000 rooms. With a shared vision and a common ambition of transforming India’s hospitality industry, this alliance between InterGlobe and Accor is poised to turbocharge Accor’s presence in India with a target of 300 hotels under the Accor brands by 2030. By combining Accor’s global hospitality expertise, InterGlobe’s deep market knowledge and entrepreneurial approach, and leveraging Treebo’s innovative tech-driven successful hospitality operations, this partnership is poised to redefine the hospitality landscape in India.
IndiGo partners with Accor
IndiGo plans to enter into an agreement with Accor to collaborate and offer unique travel and hospitality benefits to their loyalty program members. As part of the larger relationship between IndiGo and Accor, the two partners have agreed to develop a strategic collaboration through their loyalty programs - IndiGo BluChip and ALL – Accor Live Limitless. In the coming weeks, the two brands will work towards a more comprehensive engagement framework to launch a value proposition that will drive deeper member engagement and loyalty. This first-of-its-kind loyalty programs collaboration between IndiGo’s BluChip Rewards and Accor’s ALL Accor Live Limitless loyalty program would allow to partner on a wide range of initiatives such as rewards points sharing, co-branded loyalty and seamless two-way conversion. This would enable members to earn and redeem points across flights, stays and experiences. IndiGo’s strategic partnership with Accor will underscore their collaborative efforts to enhance travel experiences for passengers. The two brands will also collaborate for joint marketing initiatives and explore future growth opportunities. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “We are excited to be working on a strategic partnership with Accor to elevate the travel experience and maximize the rewards of our valued loyalty members. Last year at IndiGo’s 18th anniversary, the launch of BluChip loyalty program was announced. And to date, since its launch in November 2024, over 2 million members have already enrolled with BluChip. Now IndiGo moves to the next phase to strengthen its loyalty program by exploring and developing strategic partnerships. In line with IndiGo’s ambition to become a global aviation player, partnering with Accor, a likeminded global hospitality brand, will open new and unparalleled opportunities for IndiGo’s BluChip members. As India’s economy soars and the aspirations of its people evolve, we are also reimagining air travel to offer our customers enhanced benefits.” Sébastien Bazin, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Accor, said, “At Accor, we are dedicated to redefining hospitality by creating seamless, rewarding and meaningful experiences for our guests worldwide. This exciting partnership with IndiGo represents a powerful synergy between travel and hospitality, bringing together two industry leaders to enhance the journey of millions of loyalty members. Together ALL and BluChip will expand the horizons of customer engagement, offering greater flexibility and value across flights, stays and experiences. We are thrilled to take this bold step with IndiGo and look forward to shaping the future of travel together.”
