Finnair to start flights to Toronto in summer 2026
Finnair will start flights to Toronto, Canada, on 4 May 2026 and will have three weekly frequencies to the city next summer; on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. The route re-opening sees Finnair return to Toronto after a 11-year hiatus, as the company last flew to Toronto in summer 2015. "We are excited to grow our North American network and bring Canada back as a destination. Toronto is a popular travel destination and offers especially our European customers great connections also to other parts of Canada,” says Christine Rovelli, Finnair’s Chief Revenue Officer. Toronto, Canada's biggest city and the country's commercial and financial hub, is known for its multicultural and vibrant cultural life. Just over a hundred kilometers from the city is also one of Canada's most famous attractions, Niagara Falls, making it easy for travelers to combine a city break with nature experiences. In addition to Toronto, Finnair will fly next summer to New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle in North America.
Finnair to offer a record number of flights to Lapland next winter
Next winter, Finnair will offer a record amount of capacity to Finnish Lapland and will increase weekly frequencies to the popular winter destinations Rovaniemi, Ivalo and Kittilä. The additional services are concentrated on the busiest travel days around the weekend, when most of the rental cottages have their changeover day, for example. "We are happy to be able to offer our customers even more comprehensive connections to all our Lapland destinations throughout the winter. The additional flights will be focused especially on the high season from December to February, but we have also added flights in March, thus supporting the whole winter travel season”, says Perttu Jolma, Vice President, Network, Finnair. Finnair, also known as Santa's official airline, will have up to 72 weekly flights to Rovaniemi next winter, 10 flights more than last winter. During the busiest season, the airline will fly to Rovaniemi up to 16 times a day on Saturdays and 14 times a day on Sundays. Kittilä, which is popular among travellers heading to, for example, Levi and Ylläs, will have up to 41 weekly flights this winter, seven flights more than last winter. During the busiest weeks, Finnair flies to Kittilä up to eight times a day on Saturdays and Sundays. Finnair's northernmost Finnish destination, Ivalo, will be operated up to 33 times a week, with additional flights on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition to Lapland, Finnair will also add two additional frequencies for Saturday and one for Sunday to Kuusamo, a popular winter destination in Eastern Finland.
Finnair creates a ‘Native Order’ powered by Amadeus technology
Nordic airline, Finnair, has gone live with the world’s first ‘Native Order’, as it continues to pioneer the industry with digital innovations and modern retailing capabilities. Finnair’s CEO, Turkka Kuusisto, created the first native order in the world, on Finnair.com - Finland’s largest eCommerce store - booking a flight from Finnair’s Helsinki hub to London Heathrow. Native orders are a foundational retailing capability that allow airlines to manage customer orders directly in a single record - aligned with IATA One Order directives – and a cornerstone for the traveller centric retailing transformation in the airline industry. Tiina Vesterinen, Finnair VP Digital Customer and Revenue, said: “The move to Offers and Orders supports our move towards modern retailing, enabling, for example, dynamic product bundles and enhanced ancillary sales, and improved relevancy to customers with personalisation in the future.” “This is a massive technological transformation, where everything changes: architecture, integration, data, applications, processes, ways of working. However, it is even more of a business transformation enabling us to re-think how we best serve our customers in the digital channels.” “We are excited about the opportunities that the change brings us and encourage all the parties in the industry to join the transformation.” Cyril Tetaz, EVP Airline Solutions at Amadeus, commented: “Amadeus and Finnair have reached a key milestone in delivering more traveler-centric air travel by implementing a single order management system.” “This innovation brings the shopping basket concept to the airline industry, connecting any travel service such as air, transfer, or hotel into a single record. Orders are the foundation that enable a truly connected journey. This is a significant step forward in the retailing transformation and showcases our commitment to investing in and delivering advanced technology solutions for our customers. We’re turning vision into reality.” From PNRs to ‘Offers and Orders’ As the first airline globally to transition to this new model, Finnair is spearheading the industry-wide technology transformation from PNRs to ‘Offers and Orders’, paving the way for modern retailing and ultimately, a better experience for airline customers. Finnair partnered with Amadeus, leading travel technology provider, to become the launch customer for Amadeus Nevio, an Offer and Order based solution built on modular and open technology. This collaboration reinforces Amadeus' commitment to delivering advanced retailing capabilities and the company’s readiness to support pioneering airlines, like Finnair, with the transformation to offers and orders. The move marks an important step in the transition from the Passenger Name Records (PNRs) and e-tickets issued today, towards the new Offers and Orders model. Bringing together all the necessary information, from flight details, services, preferences and personal information, an order will now combine the currently separate documents to create a simple, integrated customer record. By doing this, Finnair aims to further modernise and simplify its processes across customer journeys, while also facilitating easier communication between the airline and its partners. Personalised, frictionless experiences Other benefits of this industry-leading move include the ability to create personalised, frictionless experiences for customers at every touchpoint, giving Finnair the freedom, agility and security to transform, differentiate, and boost its business. Finnair has been successfully driving direct engagement and modernized distribution for years, successfully driving the New Distribution Capability (NDC) adoption across markets. Having invested in direct channels and NDC (New Distribution Capability), Finnair aspires to transition to modern digital distribution enabling customers to choose relevant services for their travel according to their needs and preferences. With further advancements expected in the coming years, Finnair aims to bring further value to its business and customers in each phase of the programme.

Finnair reclaims title of leading European airline to Japan
Finnish flag-carrier Finnair has reclaimed the title of the leading European airline to Japan this summer, as it underscores its commitment to Asia. Known for connecting Europe and the Far East, Finnair has taken off with its new summer schedule, which now offers customers 25 weekly flights between its home hub in Helsinki and Japan, more than any other European carrier. This milestone marks the first time Finnair has held the title since before the pandemic, as it continues to grow its operations in Japan and reinforces its 40-year history in the market. Known for its longstanding presence and rich legacy in Japan, Finnair will offer flights to four destinations this summer, namely Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya. Finnair’s market director in Europe Anssi Partanen said: “As the seasons change, we have a spring in our step here at Finnair, as we once again take home the title of largest European airline to Japan. For over 40 years, we have connected Europe with Japan, so we are proud to now offer 25 weekly flights this summer, connecting Helsinki with the cities of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. From connecting families and friends and driving tourism, to deepening business ties, our routes to Japan have always been extremely popular, and they remain a key part of Finnair’s DNA.” More flights to a favoured destination Alongside daily flights to both Tokyo-Haneda and Tokyo-Narita, Finnair has increased flights from Helsinki to Osaka up to daily, an increase from five weekly flights last summer. These flights will support Osaka’s position on the global stage, as the city gears up to host World Expo 2025. The airline’s newest long-haul route to Nagoya, the only direct flight between Europe and the city, has also benefited from extra flights, with services doubling from twice per week last summer to four times weekly. Coinciding with the start of the summer season, is Japan’s iconic Sakura, or cherry blossom, season, which sees travellers flock from across the world to flourish in the country’s natural beauty. To celebrate, Cabin Crew on flights to Tokyo between now and 13th April can be spotted wearing traditional yukatas, created by Finnish design house, Marimekko, bringing a splash of colour to the skies. Alongside flights to Japan, Finnair also offers connections to a number of leading destinations in Asia, including Bangkok, Delhi, Doha, Hong Kong, Phuket, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore. Finnair offers smooth and easy transfers between flights from as little as 40 minutes, thanks to all flights operating from the same terminal at its Helsinki hub.
Finnair publishes its first sustainability report under CSRD
Finnair has released its first Sustainability Report in compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the European Union’s new framework for standardized sustainability reporting. This milestone reinforces Finnair’s commitment to transparent and accountable environmental and social practices, providing a detailed overview of its sustainability efforts, including over 500 key performance indicators. One of the most significant milestones in the past year was Finnair’s adoption of a new climate target for 2033, aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This commitment supports the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. In addition, the airline made notable strides in its efforts to reduce emissions, doubling its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) usage from 2,266 tons to approximately 4,700 tons. While this currently accounts for only 0.46% of total kerosene consumption, Finnair expects to increase the share of SAF to 1.8% in 2024, reinforcing its long-term focus on sustainable aviation. Beyond emissions reduction, Finnair has made significant progress in advancing circular economy initiatives. The airline successfully reduced waste per passenger to 213 grams, down from 340 grams in 2021. This figure includes waste generated at its Helsinki-Vantaa hub and on returning flights, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to minimize its environmental footprint. On the social sustainability front, Finnair has taken active steps to assess human rights risks across its operations. The airline has also reinforced its diversity and inclusion efforts, introducing internal training programs and inclusive language guidelines. Additionally, Finnair further demonstrated its commitment to equality by partnering with Helsinki Pride as an official sponsor. Recognizing that sustainability is a continuous effort rather than a one-time achievement, Finnair remains focused on several key areas for improvement. The airline is currently finalizing its transition plan to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 while continuing to expand its investments in SAF. Additionally, improving fuel efficiency in flight operations remains a priority.

Finnair expands British Airways codeshare to target more UK customers
Finnair has expanded its codeshare with oneworld alliance member, British Airways, as the Finnish airline continues to expand its reach in the UK and targets new customers in the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. The expanded agreement will see Finnair add its code to an additional seven of British Airways’ domestic routes, enabling customers to benefit from increased connectivity when travelling to Finland and beyond. With immediate effect, Finnair will add its code to British Airways flights between London Heathrow and Aberdeen, Belfast City, Gibraltar, Inverness, Jersey, Manchester and Newcastle. The move will enable customers to book the above services directly via Finnair, allowing travellers to fly from their chosen regional airport with British Airways, before connecting onto Finnair flights at Heathrow Airport. From there, customers can enjoy direct flights with Finnair from Heathrow to Helsinki, or choose to connect onto the airline’s wide-range of destinations in Lapland, the Nordics, and the Baltics. Those looking to travel further afield, can also benefit from Finnair’s network in the Far-East, including routes to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Singapore and Seoul, among others. The expanded codeshare means that customers based outside of Finnair’s current UK gateways of London, Manchester and Edinburgh can now enjoy connectivity to Finland and beyond, giving the Nordic airline a new pool of potential customers. Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director Europe, said: “Over the past few years, we have seen a growing demand for our flights to Helsinki and beyond from destinations across not only the UK, but also the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. “Therefore, we are extremely excited to be expanding our codeshare with British Airways, to ensure customers travelling from across the country can enjoy seamless connectivity onto Finnair’s flights from London. “With the ability to now book end-to-end journeys with Finnair, while also collecting Avios as a British Airways Executive Club Member, we know this move will prove popular with customers planning their long and short-haul getaways for 2025.” This news comes after Finnair launched its new expanded schedule from the UK in late 2024, adding 50% more flights between London Heathrow and Helsinki. With this, Finnair will now offer customers six daily flights from Heathrow, double daily flights from Manchester and up to seven weekly flights from Edinburgh to the Finnish capital.
